Spring Festival. The embassies of eight countries celebrated NOWRUZ 2019 in the capital of Ukraine

On March 19, 2019, the celebration of the International NOWRUZ Day took place in Kyiv. The eight embassies of foreign states accredited in Ukraine, namely, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Uzbekistan, were the initiators of the official celebration in the Column Hall of the Kyiv State Administration.

Organizational partner of the event for the fourth time was the OUTLOOK project.

On February 19, 2010, the Resolution “International Day of Nowruz” was adopted at the 64th session of the UN General Assembly. According to the Resolution, the UN General Assembly calls on member states to "make efforts to raise awareness of Nowruz and organize annual events for this holiday."

A concert during which artists representing the culture of all the organizing countries performed was planned in the solemn program in the capital.Also the guests and participants were able to familiarize with exhibitions of objects of folk art, life, dishes, textiles, decor elements, which were presented at the stands of all the abovementioned countries. The queues wishing to feast on dishes prepared specially for Nowruz were great, but all the guests could experience the culinary perfections of cooks while tastings the dishes of national cuisines.

The official opening ceremony with the participation of the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassadors of the organizing countries and the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine began the traditional holiday.

The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan in Ukraine Fayzullo Kholboboev made a speech in the name of the diplomatic corps:

"First, I want to express my gratitude to the Government of Ukraine for the support and assistance in holding our holiday. Also, I would like to thank the leadership of the Kyiv city administration for the opportunity to spend our holiday in the City Hall. For us it is a great honor. I would like to express special thanks to the project OUTLOOK and its director Daria Karyakina for the excellent preparation and organization of today's holiday. Today, NOWRUZ is celebrated in almost 30 countries of the world, it brings together about 300 million people. Each year we are together with you to celebrate the holiday in Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine.

The word “Navruz” from Tajik-Persian means “new day. Nowruz is a bright holiday, spring, fun and the beginning of the year. This holiday of the Ukrainian audience is given the opportunity to get closer acquainted with the culture and traditions of our peoples. On the other hand, such bright holidays bring together, unite and strengthen the friendship between our countries and peoples.

We hope you enjoy everything and you will leave with good impressions. Dear friends, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of you on the international holiday NOWRUZ, I wish you spring mood, health, happiness and well-being in your families, peace and prosperity in your country

Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ukraine Manuchehr Moradi shared his impressions about the event:

"NOWRUZ is a unique gift of Iranians for all the peoples of the region. Nowruz brings the joy of communication and solidarity between our peoples. Iran has a great respect for this holiday. Nowruz has become an integral part of Iranian culture, music and poetry. Now it is recognized as a world cultural heritage. This holiday came to us from our wise ancestors, and we should pay tribute to them. We are very happy today to attend this holiday and celebrate it together with our co-religionists, with the peoples of the region that are close to us in culture and spirit. On this joyful holiday let me congratulate all people, especially good, kind, hospitable people of Ukraine recidents with one of the famous Iranian verse: "May your Nowruz be every day and let every day be the winner"!.

The heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations, including the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassadors of Malaysia, Kuwait, Croatia, Canada, Pakistan, Poland, Palestine, Portugal, Latvia, Moldova, Romania, Vietnam, Belarus, Georgia, India, Hungary, Charge d'affaires of Slovenia, representatives of the embassies of Serbia, Slovakia, Indonesia, people's deputies, representatives of the public, ministries, members of directorates, the media, the diaspora of the participating countries, the ethnic communities of Kyiv, guests of capitals and Kyivites attended the event.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Ukraine Yagmur Ahmet Gülder noted:

“This is the first NOWRUZ that I celebrate in Ukraine. I’m in this state for three months, I must say that these three months seemed very dynamic and energetic. Nowruz for us is the beginning of the new year, the beginning of spring, the awakening of nature. By the way, in Ukraine as a whole and in Kyiv in particular, we also observe how spring wakes up. We believe that this is the day when we can get together, congratulate the new year, and I am very happy to see representatives of other embassies who also celebrate NOWRUZ. I am happy to see that the celebrations of people from all over Ukraine and even from other embassies are held. We are grateful to all those who have made efforts and contributed to ensuring that this celebration was held at such a high level, including representatives of the Kyiv City Administration. And on behalf of Turkey, we will wait for opportunities to share this wonderful atmosphere with your colleagues and compatriots from anywhere".
