In Venice the list of tales forbidden for children is compound

Автор: 20.07.2015 | Italy, literature
The mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro banned the study of 49 books at school – it is claimed that theory of sex identity is promulgated in the mentioned literature.

The blacklist includes all the books where the gender theory or «parent 1, parent 2» are indicated. Such masterpieces of Italian children literature appeared in exile as «Piccolo Blu» («Little Blue»), «Piccolo Giallo» («Little Yellow»), «Il Pentolino di Antonio» («Antonio’s Pot») where the topic of disabled people are touched, not to mention «Piccolo Uovo» («Little Egg»).

The books are withdrawn from school libraries.

Italian actress Martina Galletta has already spearheaded a petition at the website Change.org where she encourages to release from the ban a part of books, and requires the interference of the Minister of education.

Luigi Brugnaro, in his turn, responds that books were forbidden for a time of revision after which the reading of part of them is to be approved again. Thus, the books dealing with the topic of physical, religious or racial discrimination, such as «Piccolo Blu» and «Piccolo Giallo» are to be permitted.

Another works, such as «Piccolo Uovo» and «Deux Mamans» («Two Mothers») not intended for little children will remain under a ban.

The censorship caused many discussions in social media due to which the blacklist has already transformed into the list of prescribed literature.

In Twitter one can also find messages with hashtag #49libri49goirni (49 books 49 days). During 49 days people who disagree with the mayor’s opinion may post the name of book from the list and aforementioned hashtag as a sign of opposition to censorship.
