On June 13 in Leipzig starts festival dedicated to the great German composer Johann Sebastian Bach.
This international music event is considered the most prestigious in Germany. First Bachfest Leipzig took place in 1904 and was initiated by members of the community of fans of the outstanding German.
Opening gala is held in the famous St. Thomas Church. In total, there organized about 100 events. The program mainly consists of musical compositions of the 19th century, as well as chamber music concerts and jazz interpretations. Among other things, participants present their own programs dedicated to Bach.
The musical program is complemented by many other cultural events associated with the personality of Bach. For instance, concerts-trips to suburbs of Leipzig, films, exhibition of the composer's manuscripts and documents, lectures and reports, as well as a great culinary program. Another highlight of the festival, which has become a tradition in recent years, is awarding of outstanding musicians with Bach Medals. The medal is made of Meissen porcelain.
