Presentation of the Eighteenth Issue of the Yearbook “Diplomatic Ukraine”
Speeches on the centennial of the history of Ukrainian institutional diplomacy and the importance of writing a chronicle of the establishment and development of Ukraine’s interaction with the world were delivered by Andrii Zaiats, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine; Volodymyr Ohryzko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (December 2007 – March 2009), CEO of the Centre for Russian Studies; Volodymyr Khandogiy, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (March 2009 – October), President of the Ukrainian Association for Foreign Policy; Volodymyr Horbulin, Director of the National Institute for Strategic Studies, Member of NAS of Ukraine, Professor; Serhii Korsunskyi, Director of the Hennadii Udovenko Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine under MFA of Ukraine; Pavlo Kryvonos, Director-General of the Directorate-General for Rendering Services to Diplomatic Missions, Member of the Board of the Scientific Society for the History of Diplomacy and International Relations; Anatolii Denysenko, Editor-in-Chief of the Yearbook “Diplomatic Ukraine”, Candidate of Historical Sciences; Iryna Matiash, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Scientific Society of the History of Diplomacy and International Relations. Manoj Kumar Bharti, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Ukraine, and Datuk Ayauf Bin Bachi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to Ukraine, spoke on the importance of cooperation in the information aspect.
In total, the presentation was attended by 150 people. The guests included representatives of 43 embassies accredited to Ukraine, researchers from Bulgaria, Romania, Belarus and Ukraine, diplomats and veterans of the diplomatic service, public persons.
The book contains 68 publications: articles of Ukrainian and foreign diplomats, researches on the current state and history of international relations, Ukrainian diplomacy. The format of this year’s issue has been updated and changed. The volume reaches almost 800 pages of text in Ukrainian and English. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian Diplomatic Service, the yearbook was complemented by a special section entitled “Ukrainian Diplomacy of 1917–1924: Beginning of the Institutional History of Diplomatic Service”. New sections added also include “Institutional History of Diplomacy Through the Eyes of Those Involved”, “Diplomat’s Professional Opinion”, “Modern Diplomacy: Concepts and Realities”, “Public Diplomacy”, “Cultural Diplomacy” and “References. Reviews”.
The Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus–Ukraine Filaret noted during his speech that Diplomatic Ukraine occupies a rightful place in spiritual, diplomatic and social life of Ukraine. The yearbook is a powerful instrument for struggle during the information war.
Members of the editorial board, veterans of the diplomatic service Ihor Turianskyi and Yurii Bohaievskyi also delivered congratulatory speeches emphasizing that the memories of Ukrainian diplomats contained in the book not only facilitate the exchange of experience, but are also an important source for the history of modern Ukrainian diplomacy.
Diplomatic Ukraine is a unique publication that consistently and at high level highlights the issues of international life of our country and the world, considerably contributes to the formation of the Ukrainian scientific diplomatic school and encourages academic science to promote and implement its developments concerning a number of topical diplomatic and foreign policy issues.
