Today the Roma of the whole world celebrate their national holiday - Gypsy Day.

This date was proclaimed in honor of the first World Congress of Roma, held in London in 1971. For many years, people faced discrimination and sought to create an organization that protected their rights. When he succeeded, he united under his auspices nomadic tribes from 30 countries, adopted his own flag, coat of arms and anthem.

In many countries on this day it is customary to go out on a procession with a lighted candle - this is a reminder of the harsh fate of the Roma. Also, the festival was marked by incendiary festivals, fairs and concerts of guttural songs.

The number of this people in the world is about 18 million people. Gypsies inhabit Albania, Romania, Moldova, Croatia, Argentina, Belarus, Canada, Brazil, Russia and other countries. In Europe and America they call themselves rum, in Syria and Palestine - a house, in Armenia - scrap.
Roma speak the Gypsy language, they also speak the languages of the people, among whom they live.

The nomadic professions of nomads were tinning utensils, making boilers, horse trade, blacksmithing, music, fortune telling, however it is not uncommon to meet an engineer, doctor or teacher among them. In Roma families, as a rule, many children, but there are exceptions. Earring in the ear of a gypsy means that he is the only son.

The carriers of gypsy genes are called roman rats. They are recognized as the right to become Roma if they want. Among the famous people are: Charlie Chaplin, guitarist of the Rolling Stones Ronnie Wood, Sergei Kuryokhin, Yury Lyubimov, Anna Netrebko.
