International Day of Tango

Автор: 11.12.2014
International Day of Tango is celebrated annually on the 11-th of December.

This date was chosen in honor of two people having made huge contribution in the development of tango – Julio de Caro and Carlos Gardel who were born in the same day, on the 11-th of December.

In Europe tango is connected, firstly, with Argentinian musician and composer Astor Piazzola. In spite of the fact that Argentinians respect Piazzola and even call him “The great Astor”, the most significant figure in the history of tango is considered to be Carlos Gardel.

At first idea to celebrate National Day of Tango in the birthday of de Caro and Gardel was sounded in 1965, and the holiday obtained official status in 1977.

Things are humming in tango, in the centre of dance there are Man and Woman. Their relationships, passions, conflicts, reconciliations, “third leg”, jealousy, hatred – all feelings that fulfill human life. In this dance it is not accepted to speak, smile, there is unusual also to look into eyes. Invitation pronounced orally may be estimated as abuse. Only glance and slight movement of lips are allowed.

There are several versions about the origin of tango. The most widespread fact is that initially such dance appeared in the port suburbs of Buenos Aires. There at the turn of of XIX and XX centuries the cultural traditions of different countries of the world - rhythms of Cubin habanera, African candombe, Argentinian milonga, Spanish flamenco, and several other European dances got by foreign sailors - met and combined in the whole entity. Although in Argentine, it was a dance of poor quarters, dance of immigrants, but soon lyrical and passionate tango spoke throughout the country.
