Independence Day of Libya is celebrated on the 24-th of December: it is verily this day in 1951 Libya announced its independence and became the first Arabian state that achieved independence on the solution of United Nations, and one of the first independent countries in Africa.

Arabians conquered the area of Libya in 644 year. In XIX century, it was controlled by Ottoman Empire, but after the victory of Italy in Italian-Turkish war in 1912, the significant part of the territory of modern Libya fell under control of Italy. The colony Italian Northern Africa was established, in 1934 year re-named into Italian Libya.

In 1943, troops of Italian-German alliance were battered, and England and France occupied Libya. In 1947, Italy signed peace treaty with wartime allies and completely withdrew from all the territorial claims at Libya. Trying to save influence on Libya, Western states did their best to procrastinate delivering independence.

On the 21-st of November, 1949 General Assembly of United Nations adopted a resolution according to which Lebanon should become independent state by the 1-st of January, 1952. On the 24-th of December, 1951 independence of Libya was announced as constitutional monarchy charged by the king Idris I.
