World Telecommunication and Information Society Day
Today all system administrators, internet service providers, web designers, editors of online publications and all other people involved in the field of information technology are looking forward to congratulations.
This date was chosen due to the fact that in 1865, after two and a half months of difficult negotiations, in Paris was signed the first International Telegraph Agreement and the International Telegraph Union was founded (International Telecommunication Union since 1932).
The purpose of this observance is to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the Internet and other information and communication technologies can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide, arising due to lack of access to advanced communications.
