Mont Saint-Michel became island again

In 2015, after twenty years of investigations and building works, the old dike was destroyed and nautical character of Mont Saint-Michel was recovered. Parking area at the foot of the mountain has been pull down, and now one can reach the island only over the built bridge.
This ambitious project completely reflects the uniqueness of such a monument in Mont Saint-Michel and allows looking at the subject of world heritage from the new point of view.
Mont Saint-Michel and his bay embedded in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1979, ranks among the top of the most visited places in France. Annually nearly 2.5 million tourists arrive there. Since 1998, it has become a case of double inclusion into the UNESCO list as reminder about the belonging to the great pilgrim path of Saint Jacob from Compostella.
Mont Saint-Michel bay is the second place in the world after Bay of Fundi in Canada where one may become a witness of runs. Twice a day the level of water rises to such an extent that the island gets isolated from continent.
The tidal height in France is indicated with rate from 20 to 120.
On the 21-st of March 2015, in Mont Saint-Michel bay one can observe the wave – flood in capacity of 119. The next time the similar affluxion is expected on the 3-rd of March 2033.
However, in 2015, it is assumed 40 flows with rate more than 100, from which 18 ones are more than 100.
In the days of runs, the water reaches 12-13.5 meters. Due to the reconstructed works in such days, Mont Saint-Michel stays completely isolated for one hour.
