International Gypsies Day
This date was pronounced in honor of the first World Congress of Gypsies held in London in 1971. Years and years, the nation encountered discrimination and tended to create the organization for right protection. When it came off, nomadic tribes from 30 countries were united choosing the only flag, coat of arms, and hymn.
In many countries this day it is acceptable to join the parade with enlightened candle – it is the remembrance about severe destiny of gypsies. As well, the holiday is marked with compelling festivals, fairs, and concerts of guttural songs.
Number of this nation in the world is approximately 18 million people. Gypsies live in Albania, Romania, Moldova, Croatia, Argentina, Belarus, Canada, Brazil, Russia, and other countries. In Europe and America, they call themselves as rom, in Syria and Palestine – dom, in Armenia – lom.
Roma speak Gypsy; also know languages of nations among which they dwell.
The initial professions of nomads were tin-plating of dishes, production of cauldron, horse trade, blacksmithing, music, fortune-telling, however, it is not uncommon to meet engineer, doctor or teacher among them. In families of Gypsies, traditionally there are many children, but there are exceptions. Earring in the ear of Gipsy means that he is the only son.
Gypsies gene carriers are called Romano Rat. There is an acclaimed right for them to become Gypsies if they wish. Among famous people, we should mention Charley Charlie Chaplin, guitarist of «Rolling Stones» band Ronnie Wood, Sergey Kuryokhin, Yuri Lyubimov, Anna Netrebko.
