Montenegro Independence Day

On May 21, 2006 ceased to exist a joint state of Serbia and Montenegro and the political map featured with two new independent republics.

The two countries separated after more than 55% of Montenegrin citizens voted in favour of an independent state in a referendum. It is worth noting that by that time Montenegro had already had its own currency and customs border.

After the World War II both Serbia and Montenegro were parts of Yugoslavia, but after the fall of Slobodan Milosevic regime and the disintegration of the state, they became one country.

Today the youngest European state earns mainly on tourism. The Montenegrin Adriatic coast is believed to be the most beautiful and the cleanest. In addition in 1992 Montenegro was recognized as the world's first ecological state.

May 21 is a public holiday, a variety of events are held everywhere: concerts, shows and performances of politicians and pop stars. Being inside festive atmosphere bustling in the city, one just cannot resist relaxing in restaurants or cafes dishing up splendour of the national cuisine.
