At the bottom of La Manche 400-year-old dress is found out

400-year-old silk dress which shed new light on extremely secret mission on the mortgaging of royal jewels before English civil war had been found by divers not far away from Dutch island Texel two years ago. However, its existence has become known only now when researchers followed its origin.
The dress called as one of the most important sea discoveries from ever made in Netherlands had belonged to Jean Kerr, Duchess of Roxburge and maid of honour of Queen Henrietta Maria. It was lost when a part of a royal fleet consisting of twelve ships went down in February, 1642.
The official purpose of the trip was a reunion of the daughter of Carl I with her husband Wilhelm II. However, the ships included jewels for sale to collect money for royal army, as The Guardian reports.
The dress which has been found out together with other subjects with sunken vessels will be displayed in the sea museum of the island Texel till the 16-th of May.
