A group of American researchers, using a new scanning technology, revealed a hidden layer under one of Pablo Picasso's masterpieces, ‘The Blue Nude’.
Under the upper oil layer, scientists discovered a landscape with the image of Barcelona, which Picasso used as the basis for his new painting, referring to the blue period of his work.
Modern analysis is cheaper than conventional scanning methods, besides, the required equipment is compact enough that it can easily be delivered to any gallery.
What is surprising in this discovery is that the landscape hiding under the picture and, probably, created by the student, was turned by the artist 90 degrees, and what was the shape of the hills turned into the back of a sitting woman. She perceived the shape and outlines of the Catalan landscape.
