Flower Festival in Hiroshima
The festival of flowers began in 1977 with the goal of turning Hiroshima into a bright and flourishing city, if not for the whole year, then for a few days at least. And over the years the festival has become so popular that, in addition to the Japanese teams, teams from Indonesia, South Korea and Thailand take part in it. On the first day of the festival, a flower parade takes place, in which several thousand people participate. They accompany platforms, decorated with flowers and balloons. Of course, Japanese platforms are far away from those that are done on flower parades in the Netherlands, but still the spectacle is interesting and bright. Another parade takes place on the last day of the festival, but this time it is not associated with flowers. Instead, the parade participants in bright kimonos take to the streets of Hiroshima to show spectacular performances and dance shows. So, there is a parade without the performance of drummers and dances of a dragon, a lion and heavenly maidens. For the guests of the festival the grocery and flea markets open on which you can find a lot of interesting things and goodies. In addition, the markets have a lot of entertainment, in which both adults and children can participate. For the time of the festival in the Memorial World Park an exhibition of flowers is held. This tradition began only in 2011, but it has already fallen in love with everyone. Many Hiroshima companies and schools take part in the organization of the exhibition, growing flowers for it. After the end of the exhibition flowers are delivered to each region of the prefecture, where they continue to grow. It is worth saying a few words about the symbol of the festival - the flower tower. In the Memorial Park in front of the fountain of the World is built a tower 8 meters high. It is decorated with pots with daisies growing in them, marigolds and pansies, and the torch of the World is lit on top. More than 10 thousand pots with flowers go for the construction of the head.
