In Angola the road from adamants has been built

Australian company Lucapa Diamond is dealing with the diamond recovery in Angola. One of the richest ones is the deposit Lulo that is situated in 600 kilometers to East from Luanda. From the beginning of the year there six diamonds weighing more than 100 karats have been found, particularly, two of them have been figured out during two September weeks.

Large-scale developments require the growth of infrastructure that is why in the area of the deposit the new roads are being built. The composition of the road platform includes screened out pieces of ground that came through the special mechanism separating stones that are larger than 280 karats. The fact is that until recently the hugest diamond ever found in Angola weighed 278 karats. The experts tuned selecting mechanism to this figure suggesting that larger pieces cannot be jewel stones.

Taking into account the road construction on the basis of rejected grounds, the technology of diamond mining was disposable and did not give rise to unfavorable criticism till February 2016 when in Lulo the diamond weighing 404 karats has been found. It was accidentally seen at the screen by the operator of selecting machine. The jewel had a prolate form; consequently, if at the moment of passing through the mechanism of selection it had lied absolutely horizontally, it would have completely been put into rubbish.

The record large stone has been sold for $16 million, and Lucapa Diamond decided to establish at its plant a machine that is about to select stones larger than 1000 karats. The modernization charged $2.75 million to the enterprise – it means that only one diamond covered all the expenditures. However, the auctioneers of the company put forward a logical question if at such a rich deposit earlier large jewels could be mined. If it is exactly like that, it means that they were put under roller of road builders along with the industrial wastes.

Now Lucapa Diamond cannot exclude that constructed roads have to be cleared as the large jewels could hide there.
