Independence Day in Turkmenistan
On the 27-th of 1991, Supreme Soviet of Turkmenistan Soviet Socialist Republic voted through the law «About independence and fundamentals of state structure of Turkmenistan». This date is considered as the day of announcement of Turkmenistan independence. Turkmenistan Soviet Socialist Republic was the first among the last ones, which announced state sovereignty.
As well as in most countries of former USSR, Independence Day in Turkmenistan is celebrated in extensive and bright way. In most cities there are great folk carnivals, concerts, and other festive events. At the central square of Turkmenistan capital, Ashkhabad, the military parade is held. Holiday comes to end with traditional fireworks and salutes.
In advance of holiday, the awarding ceremonies are also kept to reward the most prominent figures of politics, sports, art, and culture in Turkmenistan. By the way, the head of government may give so-called «holiday amnesties» to people who once offend against the law (mainly, minor and unintentional crimes), also to infants, as well as women.
