India celebrates the children's holiday of Bal Divas
This day the local authorities increase the awareness of parents and teachers asking them to help children and ensure that they grow up as responsible citizens of their country. Nehru's dream was to raise children who have self-respect, who are confident in their abilities and opportunities. Nehru always believed that children are source of inspiration, full of energy and hope, and the future of the nation is based on flawless caring of society for children.
Statistics show that in the 70-80 years of the 20th century annual absolute growth of the population in India reached 16-17 million. This means that every day population increased by 46-47 thousand people, and every hour by about 1900 people.
In May 2000 India celebrated a significant event - the birth billionth citizen, the baby girl was named Asta, which in Hindi means "faith". Thus, India has topped 1 billion inhabitants. The holiday features various entertaining activities for kids, festivals, contests and competitions, which take place on a large scale.
Also this day is used to collect donations, announce results of national and international children's competitions. Children's Day in India is surely a good occasion to unite the whole family.
