18.05.2015
On May 18 Turkmenistan marks the national holiday – the Day of Revival, Unity and Poetry of Makhtumkuli Fraghi.
Celebrations held today are devoted to several events: firstly, this day in 1992 a Constitution of Independent Turkmenistan was adopted, and secondly, the holiday pays homage to the philosopher and poet, classic of Turkmen literature Makhtumkuli Fragi.
He had a great influence on the change of the Turkmen poetic language bringing it closer to people's speech. Also Fraghi replaced Arab-Persian metric versification traditionally used in Turkmen literature.
This day is a public holiday. Festivities typically include exhibitions, fairs, concerts, also amnesty is granted.
