The citizen of Burkina Faso created a farm in the desert

Yacouba Sawadogo uses the old farm method which has helped to stop the desertification of lands in the country. He has revived the ancient African tradition of farming industry called «zay». This renewal has led not only to the forest growth but also to the increase of soil quality.

The technique «zay» is very simple. In the port designed for transplants the composted fertilizer is to be put – it maintains moisture and nutritional chemicals during the entire dry season. The man has been conquering with the desert invasion alone for decades.

Meanwhile, not only hundreds trees has sprung and restrained the invasion of desert, improved tree wells invented by Sawadogo allowed bigger amount of water to get across to soil. That is why in this region subterranean ground water lines which dramatically dropped after the draught of 80-s began to rise.
