The World's First Rock Opera
That day the rockers released the album Tommy, the cover of which first showed the name of a new genre. Album won an outstanding commercial success.
The events of the opera unwind in England, after the World War I. Captain Walker did not return after one of the battles. The officer was presumed dead and his wife Nora received a death notice. The day when war ended she gave birth to a son Tommy.
The performance after The Who cult album did not leave the stage for a long time, and in 1975 the namesake film based on the rock opera was directed by Ken Russell. The parts were played by the band members and Elton John, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and Jack Nicholson.
In 2003 the record hit the list of the greatest albums of all times by the Rolling Stone magazine, and songs Pinball Wizard, I'm Free, We're Not Gonna Take It and See Me, Feel Me were recognized as almost top creations of Pete Townshend and his legendary team.
