International Women's Day

Автор: 08.03.2018
On March 8, International Women's Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. This day was originally dedicated to the struggle of women for their rights, but later became known as the day of all women. In a number of countries it is a public day off.

The official history of the holiday on the 8-th of March has begun since 1910, when the Second International Socialist Women's Conference was held on the 27-th of August in the framework of the Eighth Congress of the Second International. It was at this conference that Clara Zetkin, a well-known activist in the struggle for women's rights, proposed the establishment of an international women's day.

At the suggestion of Clara Zetkin, the international women's day was supposed to draw public attention to the problems of women. It was assumed that on such a day women could hold marches and rallies in defense and support of their rights.

The date for the celebration of this day was not immediately determined. First, different countries celebrated the days dedicated to the struggle of women for their rights, on different dates, but on the 8-th of March, 1914, the same day was celebrated in such six countries as Austria, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia and Switzerland.

International Women's Day today has lost its original meaning. Now on the holiday of the 8-th of March, it is customary to congratulate all the fair sex representatives, give them flowers and gifts. Particular attention is paid to the most loved and loved women, particularly, mothers, wives, daughters, sisters.
