Norwegian parliament signed the law about compulsory military service for women.

As it is reported in the announcement of the Ministry of defence of kingdom, the law takes course since the 1-st of January, 2015, and first women-yearings will join the ranks of Norwegian army in the summer of 2016. Norway became the first European state and the first member of NATO which ventured upon such a step.

«It is historic decision. Norway is one of the pioneers in the stated region, and we have all reasons for pride», - as Minister of defence of the country Ine Eriksen Sereyde reported.

«Military obligation is the important part of social contract between the state and its citizens, however, now we may tell that duties of all citizen to state are equal», - she said.

During several decades, the nation's leadership lays emphasis on equal treatment for men and women. According to the law, becoming operative in 2008, share of women in management of company should not be lower than 40%.

The similar requirements have effect on different social institutes and political parties. The government of kingdom makes stress on the fact that representatives of the fair sex are active participants of national job market that has a positive impact on the economics of country.

As it is explained by Minister of defence, military experience will give to Norwegian girls additional possibilities for finding of mission, receiving special skills during the service. Thus, Norwegian military forces will achieve wide possibilities when choosing the candidacies for line of contract duty. Calling up for the military service is compulsory for youngmen and women who have reached the age of 18 years.

By the way, we should take a note that before the case when military service became compulsory for Norwegian women, they had joined army with pleasure on a voluntary basis. Thus, among 8 thousand of people who have arrived to bear a commission this year, 12,5% were verily women.

The term of service in the ranks of the army, according to the law, is 19 months for army draftees, however, in fact hardly increases 12 months. Besides that, almost a half of them is enrolled in the National Guard of the country. For them the term of service is seven months, and it is divided into several relatively short periods.
