Independence Day in India

Although India received independence on the 15-th of August 1947, its Constitution was introduced only on the 26-th of 1950, and this date is celebrated as Republic Day. The holiday is held throughout the country; however, the ceremonies in New Delhi are marked with special extent and splendor.

The prime minister lays wreaths near the Gates of India – monument where names of thousands of soldiers died for their country are perpetuated. The president and Supreme Commander of Fighting Forces give an order to start cannon salute from twenty-one blizzards and raise national flag, sounding the alarm for the beginning of the parade. Military units begins march past from Raisina Hill near President palace, go gown the narrow Rajpath street between the building of Government and crowds of excited spectators, through the Gates of India approaching to the historical Red Fort.

The parade is led by honored veterans. The representatives of all types of troops wearing dress coats follow the procession to a tune of wind bands. After the military street demonstration quasi-military clubs and civil groups are seen, and mechanized infantry shows a real play on their motorcycles. Afterwards you may observe festive stages symbolizing cultural heritage of different districts of this great country, and bright fancy-dress parade. There children who obtained national awards for bravery take part in the stated ceremony: they bestride decorated elephants. The holiday is finished with eye-catching demonstration flight of air squadrons; thus the national hymn is performed in magnificent way, and thousands of air balloons are flying in order to reach the sky.
