The first zipper patented
Legend says, Judson’s friend suffered back pain and for that reason he had difficulty to bend down to tie his shoes. Then that guy asked his friend to create a device that could be fasten with one hand.
Soon clasp of two chains was presented to the public attention. The product operated as two individual clasps – one had a row of hooks, and another had a series of loops – they were joined manually, and pulled shut by a special locker. New fastener was called zipper.
Despite its advantages, it did not become popular then. Fashion-lovers considered it too difficult to use, and each kit included a two-page guidance. And the first four items were sold for only $1.
Clasp acquired its present appearance 20 years later, when the Swedish engineer Gideon Sundback made it thinner, more flexible and more reliable.
