In Times Square dozens of couples repeated a kiss of sailor and nurse

Автор: 27.08.2015 | USA, history, society
Hundreds of couples gathered in Times Square in New York so as to repeat a kiss of sailor and nurse embedded at the stated area by a photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt on Victory over Japan Day. It is reported by Associated Press.

On the 14-th of August after counting down — «Five, four, three, two, one, kiss!» — lovers clung to each other with their lips repeating the posture of characters of the famous shot. The first couple which made out became veterans Ray and Ellie Williams who had got married after capitulation announcement made by Japan – that marked the end of the Second World War.

As Ray Williams said, he was very proud to represent his generation with the spouse. The pensioner also recalled about total jubilation on the 14-th of August, 1945. Moved from Amsterdam spouses Smulders participated in the event. «I think that this kiss is one of the most beautiful symbols of peach and love», a woman said.

Over kissing people seven-meter sculpture of spellbound in the kiss sailor and nurse lifted – they had not been known for donkey’s years despite the fact that their shot appeared in Life Magazine. In 1970-s it was recognized that nurse was Edith Sein (however, this fact is still being contradictory), and various veterans of the Second World War claim to be a sailor from the shot. Among them there is, particularly, Glenn McDuffie.
