African Liberation Day

On May 25 African Liberation Day proclaimed by the General Assembly of the UN is widely celebrated.

In April 1958 leaders and political activists of the continent gathered for the first Conference of Independent African States, where they announced their intention to get rid of foreign rule and exploitation.

Five years later was founded an interstate authority the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and May 25 was termed as African Liberation Day. In 2002 the Organization ceased to exist.

Africa is a continent of great economic opportunities featuring a wealth of its flora and fauna, mineral resources, an abundance of land and water resources, numerous and fast-growing population. However economy of Africa is the most backward part of the world global economy.
