The station "Tiangun-1" was launched into orbit on September 29, 2011. During its existence, three expeditions visited: in 2011, 2012 and 2013. In 2016, communication with the orbital station was lost.

The station's weight is 8.5 tons, its length is 10.4 meters, and its volume is 15 cubic meters.

The People’s Republic of China became the third country in the world after the USSR and the USA, which launched its orbital station. In terms of its functions, "Tiangun-1" is similar to the Soviet stations of the Salyut and Almaz series. It is intended for testing the processes of docking with spacecraft, as well as testing the systems of autonomous life support for astronauts.
