Forest in Croatia was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List

Beech forest in the national parks of Croatia "North Velebit" and "Paklenica" was included in the list of World Heritage properties.

UNESCO protects virgin beech forests of European countries, which grow in different natural conditions.
Now the list includes beech forests in 12 countries: Albania, Austria, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Germany, Spain, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia and Ukraine.

Beech forests are one of the richest and most diverse ecosystems in Europe. In addition, they should be protected because of their aesthetic value, the statement of UNESCO says.
