Hawaiian flag was invented by the King Kamehameha the Great who in 1816 proposed the design of a national symbol.
Eight alternating horizontal stripes – white, red and blue – represent the major Hawaiian Islands of Oahu, Maui, Lanai, Kauai, Kahoolawe, Molokai, Niihau and the Big Island of Hawaii.
