Day of the Hobbit
Certainly, the holiday is non-official, but despite that admirers of Tolkien's literary creations – Tolkienologists – consider it as the favourite festival. Fortunately, the author indicated date of birth of Bilbo and Frodo in the books.
Significantly, nowadays on the occasion of the proper date of celebration, arguments are conducted caused by the difference between imaginary calendar which rules hobbits life in Tolkien's opuses, and real Gregorian calendar. Birthdays of Bilbo and Frodo fall to the 22-nd of September according to fictional calenday, however, they should fall approximately to the 12-14-th of September by our calendar.
The Day of Hobbit has been celebrated since 1978, moreover, the mover of such holiday establishment was American Association of Tolkienologists. Traditions of celebrations are similar to Bilbo Baggins' birthday described in the saga «Lord of the Rings»: great party, delicious feast, dances, music, and, of course, fireworks. By the way, celebrants, imitating hobbits, attend party barefoot.
