Vienna Christmas market
The first Christmas Markets in Vienna had been held more than 7 centuries ago. And now it is one of the brightest and most exciting events admired by both residents and visitors. The booths offer a variety of souvenirs, toys, sweets and many other interesting things.
Every year, the Town Hall Square in Vienna becomes a venue for the Austria main Christmas Fair called Christkindlmarkt. Colourful garlands entwine branches of trees, facades of ancient buildings are decorated with lanterns and pine branches thus creating a festive mood of the approaching Christmas. Music performances of chamber and brass bands, children's ensembles and folk choirs attract plenty of spectators.
Hundreds of wooden stalls draw customers with Christmas gifts and souvenirs, toys and sweets, traditional fair treats such as roasted chestnuts and hot punch. Remember to buy for your New Year's feast the world-famous Viennese chocolate cake Sacher with apricot jam layer.
