Kazakhstan Independence Day

Today Kazakhstan celebrates 23nd anniversary of the Republic’s independence.
The country was the last one to secede the Soviet Union thus creating on December, 16, 1991, a new state on the world map.
On Independence Day festivities, gala concerts and demonstrations of patriotic nature are held in many regions of the country, while in the capital, Astana, annually a couple thousand of Kazakhstani avow fidelity to their Motherland and its first President, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Traditionally, it is in this day when the leader of the nation hands out awards in such areas as culture, education and science; he also personally opens all the solemn events scheduled.
This year festive occasion will take place on Sunday therefore three following days are declared national holidays in the country.
