In Albania former military installation has been transformed into point of interest

The representative of the local authorities Auron Tare claimed that the military base on Sazani continues to operate despite the fact that it is transformed into sightseeing. According to him, within the travelling area it is planned to build the museum and scientific centre. «What once was an isolated, unreached spot, a mystery to almost all Albanians but a few then-communist leaders, may now turn into an attractive place, especially for foreign tourists», he marked.
61-year-old Mihal Lule residing on the island for seventeen years told that in the middle of XX century local citizens only thought about the war, 24 out of 24 hours. «Life on the island was more joyful with Russians and their vodka. The Chinese were more ascetic», Lule explained.
In 1950-s, Albanian communistic authorities spearheaded by Enver Hoxha gave the base in the possession of Soviet army. In 1961, Albania had the object returned, and in several years it had been given to Chinese warriors who had been staying on the island for several decades. Over the last years on a base a small community consisting of Albanian and Italian servicemen is remaining.
Until quite recently, within the territory the villa built in 1930-s for Benito Mussolini during Italian invasion has been situated. However, in the timeperiod of recent combined exercise of armies of Albania and NATO the building has been used as the bomber target and became ruined.
