UNICEF acclaimed the most dangerous country for newborns
The fund report notes that in Pakistan, out of 1,000 newborns, 46 die – this number is the biggest in the world.
The South African Republic and Afghanistan are on the second and third places, relatively, on the list of the most dangerous countries for newborns.
The report is part of UNICEF activities to reduce neonatal mortality.
In the document, UNICEF analysts state that ‘more than 80% of neonatal deaths are caused by three conditions that could be prevented’, in particular, premature birth, complications during childbirth and infectious diseases, including pneumonia and sepsis.
Annually up to three million children would be saved if there was sufficient investment in quality birth care, according to UNICEF findings.
