On the first week of December in Havana International Festival of New Latin American Cinema has been lasting for ten days.
The festival has been held since 1976 on the auspices of Cubin Institute of Arts and Cinematography and is considered as the most important movie-festival of the whole Spanish-speaking world.
The mentioned Institute bankrolls awarding of Premise “Coral”, the analogue of “Oscar” in Latin American cinema. It is allowed to participate in festival for all the films directed in Latin American, by Latin American director, or containing Latin American themes.
Cubin leader Fidel Castro is the great lover of cinema. Alike Lenin, Castro confirmed that “Cinema is the best among all the arts”. During the festival the demonstration of the films is held almost the whole day and night in more than 20 movie theatres of Havana. The ticket costs very cheap that is why every Cubin citizen who wishes may attend the favourite series. The hotel Nacional is the centre of public actions and shows during the festival.
