Holiday of Goddess Ixchel in Mexico

In Southern Mexico there is the festival of ancient goddess of the Mayan nation Ixchel and currently is celebrated with ceremonies, and rituals giving blessings to fields and boats.

In some legends, Ixchel is also known as Ruler of unusual surrounding darkness, Governor of night, All-Pervading Queen.

Her cult has been spread throughout the South of Mexico, peninsula Yucatan towards Salvador. One of the biggest Mexican islands is called Cozumel and it is situated twenty kilometers apart from the semi-island Yukatan.

The ancient Goddess Maya named Ixchel was considered as the Patroness of rainbow and moonlight. She was believed to be the empress of loom, medicine, childbearing, fertility, etc. She was worshiped by women. However, being in anger, the Goddess was able to send hurricane or flood.
