Sherin Khankhan became the imam of a new mosque and the mover of creation idea. Mosque Maryam is considered to be a feminist project which is to help to Muslim women.

As imam has told, in the modern mosques women do not feel themselves comfortable because men rule there. Men arrange prayer being in the centre of everything. «That is why we have created mosque intended only for women», as The Local gave reference to imam.

Mosque will have two female imams and twelve employees among whom there will be two men. The location of mosque is not revealed because of worries about possible negative reaction at the place of cult from the side of local citizens.

The representatives of traditional mosques have already expressed opinion that female mosque is not about to be recognized by the majority of Dutch Muslims.
