The festival of blossoming cherries in Philadelphia

The most famous event of this kind is still the festival in Washington, and all the citizens of other cities are not behind the capital. For example, during the whole month the citizens of Philadelphia celebrate the Festival of blossoming cherries Subaru.

The history of festival in Philadelphia started in 1926 when Japan gave 1600 plants of sakura as the goodwill gesture as well as in honor of 150-year anniversary of the state’s independence. All the cherries had been bed out in Philadelphia where they catch on well.

In 1998, American and Japanese community of Philadelphia put established a goal to bed out one thousand cherries more in the city during ten years. Every year in honor of the planting of one hundred new seedlings arranged the holiday, however, it was not popular among the citizenship.

The increase of the number of blossoming sakuras in the city has caused interest among the citizens, and more and more guests are visiting the verily ceremony of tree planting. In 2003, the holiday acquired the main sponsor – Subaru, Japanese automobile brand, which plant is situated across from Schuylkill river which separates Philadelphia from New Jersey.

With the sponsorship the festival increased from initial form of two-day event to the holiday which has been lasting for a week and them for a month. During this month in the streets of Philadelphia people arrange the true holiday of Japanese culture in frame of which there are more than 45 events. They are dedicated to Japanese food, beverages, dances, music, art, martial art, and even the art of flower arrangement.
