On the 8-th of October, Independence Day of Croatia is celebrated. This national holiday was established in honour of anniversary of announcement about independence of Croatia from Yugoslavia in 1991.
Announcement of Croatian Independence followed in the referendum in May in the course of which 93,94% of pollers voted for sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Croatia.
Initially documents confirmed the independence of Croatia, had to come into effect in July, 1991, however, through intermediary of mission of European Community, there was moratorium on implementation of similar decisions. The term of such moratorium lasted for three months. Immediately at the close of moratorium activity, parliament of Croatia met in secret council where final decision of country's independence was approved.
Independence Day of Croatia started being celebrated since 2002. Herewith, along with this holiday there is one more festive dedicated to the events of Spring-Autumn of 1991 – Day of nation-building of Croatia. This holiday is celebrated on the 25-th of June in honour of anniversary of approval of Declaration about announcement of sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Croatia, and also constitutional resolution about sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Croatia.
