This date was proclaimed to honour event of 1829 when the first settlers of the West Coast completed their long journey from Britain to the Green continent.

They arrived on the ship Parmelia in command of Captain James Stirling. For a few days strong wind did not give them a chance to step on shore, and they watched their new home staying in the see. And although officially they landed on the mainland later, June 1 became a foundation day for residents of Western Australia.

Over time the Australians transferred a holiday onto the first Monday in June. Traditionally, building of State Government hosts a grand ball and ceremony of granting award Resident of the Year, and the streets are teeming with noisy festive concerts, there is also cannons salute. A solemn ceremony devoted to granting of Australian citizenship is held this day. Immigrants who have lived there for over four years receive the long-wished passport and take an oath of allegiance to Australia.
