Apart from cookery specialists, in arrangement of festive event representatives of authorities, employers of travel agencies, and, certainly, the owners of foodservice facilities – from small coffee-rooms to famous restaraunts – participate. They lay on competitions of mastership among chefs, give out tastes, and carry out experiments with preparation of original dishes. The profession of chef is one of the most popular with the crowds, and almost the most ancient occupation.
The history keeps in silence the name of the first person who thought up how to prepare meat of outscooped poultry or plants gathered in the forest. Therefore, there is a legend about a woman whose name was given to the whole scope – culinary art. Early Greeks appreciated the god of medical treatment Asclepius (also called as Roman Aesculapius). His daughter Hygea was regarded as protector of health (her name became the origination for the word “hygiene”). Their close helpmate was kitchen maid Kulina who patronized kitchenry, obtaining the name “culinary art”.
The first recipes written on the paper, appeared in Babylon, Ancient Egypt, and Ancient China, and also in countries of Arabic East. Some of them survived in written artifacts of that epoch, and by a long stretch of imagination anyone who will take the trouble may try to prepare viand which was enjoyed by Egyptian pharaon or emperor of Celestial Empire.
