Environmental day in Thailand
Environment day is celebrated mainly in schools and other educational establishments where on the occasion of holiday events are arranged dedicated to the issues of protection of environment. The problems are put concerning salvation of forests, power saving, prevention of air pollution.
Thailand may boast of significant wealth of plant and animal world. In this country the valuable sandal wood grows and such rare animal reside as Malayan tapir (the only kind of tapir in Asia) and clouded leopard.
The important pace in the protection of environment in Thailand in 1961 became the acceptance Act about national parks and opening of the first national park Khayay. Five years on the first marine park Khao Sam Roy Yot was opened. At the moment in Thailand there are 102 national parks (among them 21 marine ones). They are ruled by Department of national parks, wild nature and plants, created in 2002.
