First this banner was named the official symbol of Armenia during a short period of independence from 1918 to1921. Independent Armenian state chose for its national flag colours of final period of the Rubenids Dynasty (Cilician Kingdom) - red, blue and yellow. However, the yellow was immediately replaced by orange, since the combination of red, blue and orange was believed to be more pleasant for visual perception.
Today the national flag of Armenia is a rectangular cloth and consists of three horizontal bands of equal width, red on the top, blue in the middle, and orange on the bottom. The most popular interpretation of the values of these colours says that red is to symbolize the blood shed by Armenians during the defence of their country, blue symbolizes the Armenian nature, and orange stands for the national courage and hard work.
