World Day of Sleep
The initiator of this day's establishment was the World Sleep Day Committee at the World Association of Sleep Medicine. It is celebrated in the framework of the World Health Organization's project on sleep and health problems.
The main task of this day is to promote the benefits of a proper and healthy sleep. On this day, various events (discussions, presentations of educational materials, exhibitions, etc.) are organized, the task of which is to draw public attention to the medical, social and educational aspects of the problem of sleep.
Particular attention is paid to the issues of controlling sleep disorders and their prevention. International medical organizations remind people of the problems connected with the lack of sleep and insomnia, they call upon humanity to a healthy way of life.
With the help of World Sleeping Day, WASM is trying to increase the level of awareness of sleep disorders, to report that this medical problem has reached the level of the global epidemic and threatens the health and quality of life of approximately 45% of the world's population.
According to statistics, more than 10% of the population of industrially developed countries suffers from insomnia, and every second inhabitant of the earth has one or more symptoms of sleep disturbance.
