Waffle Day in Sweden

Waffle Day is an unofficial folk festival celebrated on the 25-th of March in Sweden. It coincides with the feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary among Catholics. And the coincidence is not accidental.
In Swedish one of the names of the Annunciation, the Day of Our Lady (in the English-speaking tradition - Our Lady's Day), sounds like Vårfrudagen. This word in colloquial Swedish sounds almost the same as Våffeldagen - Waffle Day. Thanks to this consonance, the Day of Waffle appeared, although he certainly does not have any religious connection with the Annunciation.
By the way, now the Swedish church celebrates the Annunciation on Sunday between the 22-nd and 28-th of March, and the Waffle Day is still celebrated on the 25-th of March, on the old date of the Annunciation. The main tradition of the holiday is, of course, eating thick wafers with cream, jam and whipped cream.
