As it is reported, the drawing canvas of baroque epoch was stored in the private collection. In the opinion of experts, the totality of typical peculiarities points to the fact that it is original copy.
On the reverse side of canvas, the inscription was found that indicates belonging of picture to Italian cardinal Scipione Borghese, benefactor and amateur of Caravaggio. Art historians think that it was verily Borghese who ordered this cloth from painter. The size of the cloth is 103,5 at 91,5 cm.
«Even according to the standards of Caravaggio it is beautiful and revolutionary picture. The final purpose should be giving of opportunity for each person to see it», - it was reported by Mina Gregory who conducted the expertise. However, the owners of canvas are not going to exhibit it, sale is also excluded from the scope of work.
We want to make emphasis on the fact that there are several copies of «Mary Magdalen in Ecstasy», created in 1606 before several years to the death of artist. Caravaggio is the reformer of European art of XVII century and is considered to be the founder of realism. His creativity made a strong impact on such masters as Rubens, Velazquez, and Rembrandt.
