Global handwashing day
Global handwashing day was created during the World Week of Water happened in Stockholm in a timeperiod from the 17-th to 23-rd of August, 2008. The date of 15-th of October was confirmed by General Assembly of United Nations in frames of International year of sanitary science. Despite the official recognition of United Nations organisation, Global handwashing day does not join the system of international and world days of United Nations.
The initial purpose of campaign was to decrease the level of infant mortality from respiratory and intestinal infections. According to the results of investigations, such easy and available disinfectant method as handwashing with soap may lessen the level of death rate from these contagions almost at 50%.
In arrangement of promotions and events dedicated to the Global handwashing day, with the assistance of United Nations, organisations from 70 countries take part. Special attention during framing is given to the countries of Asia, Africa, and South America. The target audience of most hygienic events are, first and foremost, pupils.
