Cannes Film Festival opens

This year 18 films from 11 countries will compete for the " Palme d'Or ". Film festival jury is headed by New Zealand director Jane Campion, who also was a winner of the top prize in Cannes.
Main competition jury includes: French actress Carole Bouquet, American actor Willem Dafoe, Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal, South Korean actress Jeon Yong- Up, Iranian actress Leila Hatami, American director Sofia Coppola and director Jia Dzhanke from China.
The festival will be officially opened with the film made by French director Olivier Daan "Princess of Monaco”. It is a story about famous American actress, Oscar winner - Grace Kelly, who married Prince Rainier of Monaco III.
Competion for the grand prize this year will be between films : " The Captive” by Atom Egoyan , "Deux jours, une nuit” by Jean-Pierre Dardenne, " Maps to the Stars” by David Cronenberg , “Adieu au langage” by Jean- Luc Godard , "Leviathan" by Andrei Zvyagintsev, "The Homesman” by Tommy Lee Jones and others.
Also during the festival short films competition will be held. Program consists of: Un Certain Regard", "Cannes Classics", "Directors Fortnight", " Week of criticism".
The section "Special Show" will also present documentary film by Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa "Maidan" .
The holiday will take place till May 25.
