Ebola fever – fighters were awarded with the title “The person of the year”, according to “Time” magazine. It is reported at the web-site of the edition.

The representatives of the magazine also named four nominees who were close to the victory but gave way to the fighters with the mortal virus. The second place was obtained by the protestors in Ferguson, at the first step the president of Russia Vladimir Putin has appeared. Fourth and fifth positions were taken by the leader of Iraqi Kurdistan Masud Barzani and the founder of the company Alibaba Jack Ma correspondingly.

This year among 50 contenders to the title “The person of the year” there were also Pope Francis, chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, 17-year Pakistani human rights defender Malala Yousajzai and schoolgirls kidnapped in Nigeria.

According to the definition of “Time” editorial staff, an individual or group who made the greatest impact on news and human life, whether it is good or bad, could be recognized as the person of the year. This title also symbolizes all necessary events happened in the current year. In 2013, “The person of the year” became Francis Pope, in 2012 – the president of USA Barak Obama.

The outbreak of Ebola fever started in Western Africa in February 2014, claimed, more than five thousand lives, according to the recent data. Almost all victims lived in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. Currently the number of cases of contamination in Liberia drops, while in Sierra Leone and the range of regions in Guinea the plague remains out of control. Apart from that, a new focus of the spreading of infection has appeared in Mali.
