The report: every seven seconds a girl younger than 15 gets married
In such countries as Afghanistan, Yemen, India and Somali girls in the age of ten years old are forced to get married to men who are much older, as it is stated in the report.
Early marriages often destroy the lives of the girls as the latest are deprived of the right to achieve education and development, the organization is convinced. As well, the girls are, actually, run out of the right to be a child, as it is stated in the report.
In opinion of the investigation’s authors, girls who got married early usually cannot attend school. Their chances to face domestic battering, mockery and sexual violence are a bit higher. Girls become pregnant too early and they are also susceptible to different diseases coming by sexual way, including human immunodeficiency virus.
Early marriages are especially spread in poor countries where the military conflicts and humanitarian crisis happen. For instance, girls are often got married in the families of refugees so as to save them from poverty.
In the report the ranking of international countries is compiled depending on the possibilities which they give to the girls. The list counts on such criteria as spreading of children marriages, age when a woman firstly gives birth to a child, maternity mortality, level of education of the women and other factors.
At the end of the ranking there are Niger, Chad, Central African Republic, Mali, and Somali. In these countries girls early got married and deliver babies, often die in childbirth and rarely acquire education.
The ranking is headed by the countries of North Europe, such as Sweden, Finland and Norway. The USA appeared only at the 32-nd place of the list, generally, because of the high maternity mortality as in the USA fourteen women die from every one hundred thousand deliveries. Additionally, the same level of the maternal mortality is in Uruguay and Lebanon. Russia is not represented in the ranking.
